England Women’s World Cup squad LIVE! Sarina Wiegman announcement and Lionesses updates
ngland World Cup squad – LIVE!
Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman today names her squad for the Women’s World Cup squad. Having won Euro 2022 last summer, England head into this year’s tournament as one of the favourites, albeit one beset by a host of injury problems.
Beth Mead, Leah Williamson and Fran Kirby are all out injured but there is hope over Chelsea defender Mille Bright. With only 23 players available for a spot on the plane, Wiegman can ill-afford to take too many risks.
There have been retirements in the form of Jill Scott and Ellen White since the Euros win but England still have an embarrassment of riches up-front. Alessio Russo, Rachel Daly and Chloe Kelly all offer prolific options and, though hardly ideal, the squad remains one of the best around. Follow the announcement LIVE with Standard Sport’s dedicated blog, Simon Collings will be providing updates and analysis!
