People living on Endsleigh Road, Bedford will see a CCTV unit on their street to help tackle anti-social behaviour and persistent fly-tipping.

The area has been designated a ‘hot spot’ for fly-tipping, which causes significant environmental damage, endangers public health and blights local communities by creating unsightly areas that diminish pride in local neighbourhoods.

The unit has been made possible thanks to ward funding through the three local Cauldwell Labour councillors Abu Sultan, Fouzia Atiq and Harish Thaper.

They decided to take action after residents faced ongoing challenges with anti-social crimes.

In a joint statement, they said: “Residents in the area have faced ongoing challenges due to anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping, which disrupt the peace and cleanliness of the area.

“By installing this mobile CCTV unit, we aim to address these issues and create a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming environment.

“Fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour not only harm the community but also affect the mental well-being of those living here. We are proud to invest in solutions that make a difference.

“CCTV is a proven deterrent for criminal and anti-social activities, and we are confident this installation will help reduce incidents significantly.

“We encourage residents to continue reporting issues and working with us to make Endsleigh Road and the surrounding area a better place for everyone.”

Wider action

Bedford Borough Council is committed to cracking down on fly-tipping, and those caught will face swift and decisive action.

This includes issuing hefty fines and, where necessary, pursuing legal action to hold offenders accountable for their actions. The council is working in partnership with local communities to combat this issue and ensure Bedford remains a safe and pleasant place to live.

The mobile CCTV unit on Endsleigh Road will be operational immediately, and the councillors say they will continue to monitor its impact while exploring additional measures to address community concerns.
