The Tories suffered a “hammering” in the local elections this week, losing more than 1,000 councillors and 49 councils. Sky News analysis also suggested Labour would become the largest party in Westminster in a general election – but short of an overall majority.

And Saturday’s coronation has prompted questions over the police response to the anti-monarchy protests, following dozens of arrests.
