Andrew Strauss: Former England captain to step down from ECB roles
The former England captain has been working as a strategic advisor to the ECB Board, as well as chair of the Performance Cricket Committee.
âIâve really enjoyed my time at the ECB and am proud of having contributed to a successful period for our England teams,â Strauss said in a statement.
âWith increasing commitments outside of the organisation, sadly Iâve decided itâs time to step away from my current role. I wish the new Board all the very best as it continues in its mission to grow our game.â
Last year, off the back of Englandâs Ashes drubbing in Australia, Strauss led a high-performance review into the state of menâs cricket but the reportâs key recommendations to shake up the domestic gameâs schedule and structure were rejected by the 18 first-class counties.
Prior to his current stint at the ECB, Strauss had spent the three-and-a-half years up until October 2018 as director of cricket, helping kickstart the white-ball revolution that led to the following yearâs World Cup success. He also briefly reprised the role on an interim basis prior to Rob Keyâs appointment last year.
The 46-year-old will formally step down at next monthâs AGM, where the appointment of four new non-executive directors will be ratified.
They are: Penny Avis, currently a director at golfâs European Tour; Jennifer Owen Adams and Gareth Williams, the chairs of Cricket Wales and Glamorgan, respectively; and Baroness Zahida Manzoor.
