Pep Guardiola honoured to match Sir Alex Ferguson after message from Manchester United legend
Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League Final in Istanbul on Saturday night to finally capture the one trophy which had eluded them.
A second-half strike from Rodri and two stunning saves from Ederson ensured City became only the second team in English history to win the treble after Manchester United in 1999.
Manchester now follows Milan in being the only city to have two teams to have lifted the Champions League.
With City matching Unitedās achievement, debate as to who were the better team will undoubtedly rage.
Still, Guardiola was at pains to play down such tribal debate and simply spoke of how honoured he was to match Ferguson in lifting the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season.
“I canāt wait to be on the bus with the three trophies,ā he said.
āItās an honour for me to be like Sir Alex Ferguson ā he sent me a message this morning.”
