Olympics 2024 final medal table as Team GB surpass Tokyo haul with fewer golds
Team GB ended the 2024 Olympics with a higher medal haul than they achieved in Tokyo three years ago.
Bronze medals picked up on a dramatic final day at the Paris Games by Emily Campbell and Emma Finucane in weightlifting and the women’s individual track cycling sprint respectively made it a brilliant finish to a memorable fortnight for Great Britain across The Channel.
It meant that Britain achieved a final medal tally of 65 in Paris – one more than they managed in Tokyo in 2021, albeit with eight fewer golds.
It is the same number of medals overall that Team GB managed on home soil at London 2012 and two fewer than their stunning overseas haul in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Such a collection was good enough for seventh place in the final medal table, their lowest finish since placing 10th at both Sydney 2000 and in Athens in 2004.
GB had finished fourth in the medal table in Tokyo and second in Rio, having been third in London and fourth at Beijing 2008.
Top spot once again belonged to the USA, who tied with China for golds with a gripping finish to the Games in the women’s basketball final but easily beat them in terms of total medals.
Here are the final medal standings for the 2024 Paris Olympics…

How the medal table works
The medal table is ranked by gold medals, rather than overall medal count.
Silver and then bronze medals are used as tiebreakers if two countries are level on the same number of golds. Then alphabetical order comes into play.
