Paris Olympics: Team GB gold medal hopefuls assessed
In Tokyo, from a British perspective, the headlines were predominantly hogged by Tom Dean, who defied a series of Covid bursts to shine. Dean has missed out on qualifying in the event in which he is Olympic champion, the men’s 200m freestyle, but GB have gold-medal hopefuls in Duncan Scott and Matt Richards. Scott has his sights set on a first individual Olympic gold, while Richards looks set to be the team’s break-out star. And then there is the small matter of Adam Peaty, suggesting he is peaking at just the right time in his quest for a hat-trick of Olympic 100m breaststroke titles.
