David Moyes has no new signings to put through their paces in this early morning pre-season friendly for UK viewers, although the exit of Declan Rice – confirmed before kick-off – should herald a flurry of transfer activity to rejuvenate the West Ham squad ahead of another European campaign.
Therefore, the main interest for the Hammers fans will be the first-team stars such as Jarrod Bowen, Kurt Zouma and wantaway star Gianluca Scamacca getting more minutes under their belt, plus a host of young players strutting their stuff. It is the first time these two teams have met, which is perhaps not a surprise given the 9,000-mile distance between the pair.
This is, though, the second time West Ham have travelled Down Under, the first time coming in 1995 for a Centenury tour.
Interestingly, the tour became a scouting trip for then-manager Harry Redknapp who signed Stan Lazaridis soon after.
