Hosts have gone early…

Just the two hours before kick-off then, for Real Madrid’s team news.

Modric is fit to start in midfield, alongside Kroos and Valverde. Rodrygo’s strong form is enough for him to keep his place in the front three, while once again it’s Camavinga who gets the nod at left-back.

So much Champions League experience in that side.

Rodri: We want revenge

That defeat was a painful one for Man City, and Rodri has urged his team-mates to use the memory of that collapse to fuel them on their return to Madrid tonight.

The Spain midfielder said: “Football gives you the option to have revenge.

“We have the philosophy you can always learn from past experiences. We did a great two games but football is like this and we didn’t go through.

“We will fight again. We will try to learn from what we did bad in that moment.”

Twelve months ago…

It was fairly eventful when these sides met in the last-four a year ago.

Man City were seemingly cruising into the final, 5-3 up on aggregate heading into stoppage-time with Real appearing to be a beaten side.

Well… things swiftly changed. Rodrygo scored twice in 90 seconds to send it to extra-time, before Karim Benzema netted what proved to be the winner from the spot. Madness.

Standard Sport prediction

It would be foolish to write Madrid off in this competition but this feels like a different City.

So strong, so structured and so dangerous, with Erling Haaland continuing his remarkable first season in England, the stage looks set for City to take control of this semi-final tie.

Manchester City to win, 2-1.

Man City team news

Manchester City are without defender Nathan Ake for tonight’s trip to the Bernabeu.

The 28-year-old, who only recently returned from a hamstring injury, was forced off during the 2-1 win over Leeds on Saturday with a calf problem. Kyle Walker was swiftly called upon to replace the Dutch centre-back.

Manuel Akanji could move over to the left side of defence to cover Ake, as he did against Arsenal, while left-footed defender Aymeric Laporte is another option.

In more positive news, Kevin De Bruyne returned from fitness concerns to start against Leeds after missing the previous two games. Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, though, were the stars of the show, with two goals and two assists between them, and will be hoping to start the titantic Santiago Bernabeu clash.

John Stones, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish were all rested against Leeds so should come in.

Predicted Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Akanji; Stones, Rodri; Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland.

Real Madrid team news

Luka Modric has handed Real Madrid a major selection boost ahead of City’s visit tonight.

The first leg at the Bernabeu had been a question mark for the Croatian midfielder, who has only just made his playing return from a hamstring injury. Modric though came off the bench in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final victory over Osasuna after two games out.

Aurelien Tchouameni had started in the 37-year-old’s place yet Modric’s eight-minute run out should be deemed enough to prove his ability to drop straight into the line-up for this semi-final tie.

Real will definitely be without reserve midfielder Dani Ceballos due to a thigh muscle injury. In defence, Ferland Mendy (calf) and Eder Militao (suspended) are unavailable.

Predicted Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Carvajal, Rudiger, Alaba, Camavinga; Valverde, Modric, Kroos; Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
