When the FA Cup fifth round draw is and who Maidstone could play

Sixth-tier Maidstone United stunned Ipswich Town to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup with a historic 2-1 victory at Portman Road.

“This is for our community, Maidstone,” said manager George Elokobi aferwards. “We have to believe… The magic of the FA Cup is very much alive.”

The Stones, who took over 4,000 travelling fans to Suffolk, had a starring performance from Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Covolan to thank, with Ipswich registering 38 attempts, 13 shots on target and 78 per cent possession. Maidstone managed just two shots on target but scored both.

Holders Manchester City were the first team into the hat after beating Spurs 1-0 on Friday night, courtesy of Nathan Ake’s late goal to secure their first ever victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There was nothing to separate Chelsea and Aston Villa, who played out a goalless draw on Friday night and will have to replay their tie.

Manchester United travel to League Two Newport County on Sunday, while Everton host Luton Town. Plymouth and Wrexham will be among the clubs eyeing a giant-killing of their own, facing Leeds United and Blackburn respectively.

How to watch the draw

The draw for the fifth round takes place on 28 January at 2pm. It will be televised on ITV and across the FA’s social channels ahead of Liverpool’s tie against Norwich City – the Reds’ first match since Jurgen Klopp announced his shock decision to step down at the end of the season.

Liverpool are still in contention for four trophies this season having already reached the Carabao Cup final, where they will play Chelsea.

Fifth-round ties will be take place during the week commencing Monday 26 February.
