Boeing 767 lands nose down in emergency at Istanbul Airport
A Boeing 767 plane landed nose down at Istanbul Airport in Turkey on Wednesday after its landing gear failed to deploy.
The FedEx Airlines 767-300SF freighter, arriving from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, is understood to have reported problems in extending its nose landing gear to air traffic control at the airport.
Flight FX6238 then did a low-pass for an inspection and made an emergency landing.
The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service teams were dispatched to the runway, Turkish media reported.
No injuries were reported after Flight ‘s belly landing and the damage to the reportedly decade-old plane is currently unknown.
Aviation news account @aviationbrk shared videos and still images of the plane’s landing in a post on X just after 8am on Wednesday, adding: “FedEx 767-300SF has landed with its nosegear up at Istanbul Airport, Turkey.”
The plane was taken off the runway, which was closed to other flights, and investigations into the incident are understood to be underway to determine the cause of the landing gear malfunction.
