Boris Johnson was ‘far left’ and Nicola Sturgeon ‘didn’t love Scotland’, claims Donald Trump

Donald Trump has claimed that Boris Johnson was undone because he was “far left”.

Speaking to former Ukip leader Nigel Farage in a GB News interview from his golf course in Scotland, the ex-president poured scorn on his former ally, suggesting Mr Johnson “really went a little bit on the liberal side” by embracing environmentalist policies.

Of the flagging Conservative poll ratings, he said: “They were literally going far left. It never made sense. I’m saying this as an insider looking in, they were going far left. What were they doing? And now maybe Labour’s in the lead, maybe they’re not. I don’t know who’s in the lead. But I can tell you they were not Conservative policies in the end.”

He said of Rishi Sunak: “I don’t know him but he seems to be working very hard and doing a good job.”

Mr Trump also claimed that Nicola Sturgeon “didn’t love Scotland” as he reheated grievances over planning permission relating to his golf courses in the country.

He rejected suggestions he would dislike Scotland’s new first minister Humza Yousaf because he is a Muslim, adding: “I am not anti-Muslim. I have friends that are Muslim and great friends and frankly, leaders of countries that are Muslim and I’ve had great relationships… so I don’t exactly know what he’s talking about.

“But you know, I’ve kept a very safe country when I was President. We kept a very, very safe country, and did a really great job.”

Mr Trump also claimed that Joe Biden, who he is likely to face in the 2024 presidential election, was more likely sleeping than attending the coronation.

He said: “I was surprised when I heard that he wasn’t coming. I think it’s very disrespectful for him not to be (at the coronation).

“When you have somebody that’s going to be sleeping instead of coming to the coronation as President of the United States, I think it’s a bad thing.”

The bizarre and wide-ranging interview saw Mr Trump repeat a number of conspiracy theories, claiming that the 2020 election was “rigged” and the criminal case against him in New York is “all fake”.

Mr Trump, who has long resisted wind farms close to his golf courses, also suggested that turbines are responsible for whales “all of a sudden washing up” on shores and are “certainly killing the birds”.

Mr Trump also claimed he would be able to end the war in Ukraine within “24 hours”, adding: “That deal would be easy. A lot of it has to do with the money.”
