Three British tourists missing, 12 rescued as boat catches fire during Egypt diving trip

Three Britons are missing after a fire on board a boat during a sea cruise in the Egyptian Red Sea.

Twelve other UK tourists were rescued from the luxury diving boat Hurricane, which was off the coast of Marsa Alam, according to local authorities.

The vessel was reportedly carrying 15 Britons, as well as 14 local crew members and guides, when the blaze broke out.

Details of the three missing passengers have not yet been released.

Initial reports suggested the fire was the result of an electrical fault in the engine room.

According to local media, the boat had left Port Ghalib on 6 June and had been due to return on Sunday.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are in contact with local authorities following an incident aboard a dive boat near Marsa Alam, and are supporting British nationals involved.”
