James Cleverly ‘supportive’ of Lindsay Hoyle after 70 MPs sign no confidence motion

The Home Secretary said he is “supportive” of Sir Lindsay Hoyle despite nearly 70 MPs signing a motion of no confidence in the House of Commons Speaker.

James Cleverly said the Speaker “made a mistake” by allowing a vote on a Labour amendment to an SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza – but ultimately said he was “supportive”.

Meanwhile, the UK has signed a deal with the EU’s border agency in a bid to curb small boat crossings.

The deal with Frontex will see UK Border Force co-operate more closely with its European counterparts to “put more pressure on the people smugglers back through their supply chains”, the Home Secretary said.
