Commuters face travel chaos as train drivers launch fresh strike over pay
Rail passengers are facing travel disruption today as train drivers launch a fresh wave of strike action across some of the country’s busiest commuter routes.
Members of the Aslef union are walking out in a long-running dispute over pay.
Drivers will strike at the following operators on Tuesday: Southeastern, Southern/Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Thameslink, South Western Railway and Island Line.
These walkouts will be followed by strikes at various other train operators until Monday 5 February.
South Western Railway has urged passengers to only travel if “absolutely necessary” on Tuesday, warning that a significantly reduced service will operate on a limited number of lines.
