Dali Mpofu dumps EFF for MK – Julius Malema responds

Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) National Chair Dali Mpofu has left the organisation to join the Ukhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

Mpofu has been with the Red Berets for nearly a decade and was also a member of parliament. On Thursday morning, it was reported that the 62-year-old advocate had joined Jacob Zuma‘s MK, shocking some EFF supporters.

Speaking to SABC News, Dali Mpofu said the MK Party was the only vehicle to achieve unity and emancipation.

“After a lot of soul searching, I’ve taken a decision that I will be joining MK. I’m joining MK because I believe that it is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity so I’m doing so not necessarily to reject any other organisation but at this point in time, in November 2024, I am of the view that the vehicle through which we should drive that unity is uMkhonto we Sizwe.”

Dali Mpofu’s departure prompted a response from EFF leader Julius Malema on X(formerly Twitter).

“Only two more of your favourites remain, and the list will be finalised. They sing beautifully and are always willing to pose for pictures and sign roll calls, but remember, their souls are long gone. To prevent any potential hurt, it’s crucial to heed the guidance of the leadership. We remain standing and are not going anywhere under a criminal syndicate,” Malema said.

With Dali Mpofu gone, many are expecting senior EFF leader Mbuyiseni Ndlozi to jump ship. The likes of Floyd Shivambu and Busisiwe Mkhwebane have already joined the MK Party from the EFF.
