Eddie Ratcliffe, one of the teens who murdered Brianna Ghey, appeals sentence

A teenager who was jailed of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey for a minimum of 20 years has lodged and appeal over his sentence.

Eddie Ratcliffe was convicted last year and handed his sentence last month after Brianna was lured to Linear Park, Culcheth, a village near Warrington, Cheshire, on the afternoon of February 11 last year and stabbed 28 times in her head, neck and back with a hunting knife.

Scarlett Jenkinson was also convicted of murdering Brianna and handed a minimum 22-year sentence.

In a statement issued to ITV, judicial officials confirmed Ratcliffe wants to appeal against his sentence.

A statement from the Judicial Office said: “We can confirm we have received an application for leave to appeal sentence from Eddie Ratcliffe.

“There is no record of an appeal from the co-defendant Scarlett Jenkinson.”

Her killers both tried to blame each other for the stabbing but in December were both found guilty of murder by a jury at Manchester Crown Court following a four week trial.

Media were banned from naming them during their four-week trial because of their ages.

But after they were found guilty of murder by the jury, Mrs Justice Yip ruled the press could name them following an application from journalists at the PA news agency.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
