Can I claim the £400 energy grant? How to get DWP support vouchers and when the deadline is this week

Time is fast running out for people wanting to claim their £400 energy payment.

The Government announced in 2022 that every household in the UK would get £400 to help with the cost of spiralling energy bills, but over £130m of the support has not been claimed.

While most households had the discount automatically deducted from their bills, those on prepayment meters were issued the support through vouchers – and millions remain unclaimed.

Adam Scorer, chief executive of National Energy Action, said the scheme has been “crucial” in helping many people throughout last winter.

“But prepayment customers – often some of the most vulnerable – were paid in vouchers and millions remain unclaimed,” he said. “Some customers didn’t receive them, others struggled to redeem them.

“We urge anyone who hasn’t yet claimed their vouchers to do so before the 30 June deadline and if you have friends and family that may not have used their vouchers, spread the word.

“It may be the support that keeps their lights on, their oven cooking, their hot showers running, through the summer. It’s vital money at a time when it’s never been needed more.”

When is the deadline for the energy support voucher scheme?

All energy support vouchers will expire on 30 June 2023.

Prepayment users have been sent vouchers by their electricity supplier as part of the energy bills support scheme.

These will have been sent via text, email or post, or applied as an automatic credit when you top up at your usual top up point. Your energy supplier should have advised in advance what form the discount would take.

There are six vouchers, each worth £66 or £67 and providing total support of £400, all of which expire on 30 June.

To redeem the voucher, energy users must visit a Post Office or PayPoint with their energy bill support vouchers and identification before the deadline.

I’ve lost my energy support voucher or haven’t received it. What now?

If you’ve lost your energy support voucher or think you haven’t received it, contact your energy supplier as soon as possible.

Lost vouchers can be reissued by your energy supplier, but this must be done before the deadline.
