At least four people killed in Russian missile attack on Lviv in western Ukraine
A Russian missile attack has killed at least four people in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.
Nine people were wounded in the rocket strike, which destroyed the top two floors on part of a block of flats.
Rescuers were hunting through the debris of the apartment building amid fears survivors may be trapped inside.
Lviv mayor Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said around 60 apartments and 50 cars in were damaged in the strike.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Telegram: “Unfortunately, there are wounded and dead.
“My condolences to the relatives! There will definitely be a response to the enemy. A tangible one.”
Zelenskyy also posted drone footage that shows wrecked buildings from above. Third and fourth floors of the struck building were ruined.
Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi posted a 13-second video showing a four-storey apartment building with parts of the upper floors missing or reduced to rubble.
The posts from the officials followed widespread air alerts across Ukraine and reports of cruise missiles entering Ukrainian airspace. Local Mayor Andriy Sadovy reported a series of explosions in the city.
Hundreds of thousands of internally displaced Ukrainians have fled to Lviv from other areas to the east in the war-torn country.
