Sunak and Starmer face tense wait for results as exit poll looms

As voters continue to head to polling stations across the UK this evening, there is now less than two hours to go until the exit poll is published – giving the first indication of the election result.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer both face a tense wait for the results and the ultimate verdict on their election pledges and campaigns.

Over the coming hours, we can expect the first seats to be declared at around 11.30pm, and by 4.30am it is likely we will know who will form the next government.
