Israel will have ‘security responsibility’ for Gaza after fighting ends, Netanyahu says

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will have “security responsibility” for Gaza once the fighting ends.

He resisted calls for a ceasefire but said humanitarian pauses could be possible to allow aid in and Israeli hostages out.

Meanwhile, explosions were reported overnight across Gaza, including the southern Gazan city of Khan Younis where hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled for their safety.

It has been one month since Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October, killing 1,400 people and taking over 200 hostages.

The Hamas-run health ministry has said more than 10,000 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel started bombing the enclave, including more than 4,100 children.
