Highlanders back on top after draw against Dynamos

By Sports Reporter

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders moved back to the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log following their goalless draw against Dynamos at a packed Barbourfields Stadium, Thursday.

The rescheduled league clash between the country’s biggest football clubs lived up to expectations despite the absence of goals.

The two sides, which have both been struggling to score goals this season produced some exciting football despite their failure to break the deadlock.

Bosso hit the woodwork twice, while Dembare dominated play but in the end both sides registered their fourth successive draws.

The home side had a chance to win the game when Washington Navaya had a free header in the Dynamos box but hit the crossbar in the 86th minute.

Highlanders however will be the happier of the two teams as their point took them to the summit of the premiership log standings.

However their coach Baltemer Brito said he was disappointed that his team did not pick up maximum points.

“I’m sad because I wanted to collect three points for the supporters. The match was good it was an open game, pity we didn’t collect maximum points, but life goes on,” Brito said during the pitch-side post-match interview.

“We hit the crossbar and the goals will come as we are creating opportunities,” he said.

Dynamos head coach Herbert Maruwa, who has been under pressure due to his team’s struggles upfront said he was happy with his team’s performance.

“It was a good game. We were in control for the better part of the game. If we keep on working hard, the goals will come. I’m very happy with the performance the boys did very well,” said Maruwa.

Bosso leap frogged Ngezi Platinum who have 17 points from the same number of games played while Dynamos moved up two places to position six and are tied on 15 points with reigning champions FC Platinum and Chicken Inn.

Meanwhile, in another premiership clash played Thursday, 51-year-old Herentals owner Innocent Benza’s deflected goal was in vain after his team’s  2-1 defeat against Hwange at the National Sports Stadium.
