Hometown of Ukraine Eurovision act comes ‘under fire’ from Russian missiles during contest

Russia attacked the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil as the Ukrainian Eurovision entry Tvorchi – who are from the city – were about to perform in Liverpool, according to reports.

Ternopil’s regional state administration head Volodymyr Trush says two civilians have been injured, and warehouses and a religious organisation were damaged in the attack.

Tvorchi said on Instagram they read reports of their city being attacked 10 minutes before taking to the stage.

The electronic duo delivered a passionate performance at song contest final as members of the audience waved their national flag.

Andrii Hutsuliak and vocalist Jeffery Kenny, are hoping to defend the reigning title, after Kalush Orchestra won last year.

Their song Heart Of Steel, inspired by the bravery of the Ukrainian people, featured lyrics in both English and Ukrainian.

At the end of their performance, the pair held their fists in the air as acts from other nations were also seen waving the blue and yellow flag of Ukraine.

Bookies have predicted Tvorchi will perform well with the voting public, but they face stiff competition from favourites including Sweden and Finland.
