Humza Yousaf ‘preparing to resign’ as no-confidence vote looms

Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf is reportedly preparing to resign ahead of a no confidence vote being held this week.

Struggling to pull in enough support from other MSPs after ditching a coalition deal with the Greens last week, Mr Yousaf is said to have decided over the weekend that his position was untenable and there was no way for him to survive a no confidence vote, with it being reported that he could quit as early as Monday.

Senior SNP figures are understood to have been told as such, with former party leader John Swinney having been approached to become an interim first minister in that event, while The Times cites a “close friend” of Mr Yousaf as saying: “Humza knows what’s best for the country and the party. He is first party activist and a party man, and that’s why he knows it’s time for someone else.”
