Is Pentagon Island open? Where A52 is still closed in Derby after Storm Babet and full list of road closures

The clean-up from Storm Babet is continuing after it battered the UK with heavy rain and strong winds last week.

A major route into Derby is expected to be closed for several days, prompting councils to encourage people to work from home, after the River Derwent broke its banks.

A section of A52 became submerged with water after flash flooding on Friday, and has been shut since Saturday. Some parts of the city centre, including Pentagon Island, were also flooded.

Where is the A52 closed?

The A52 inbound has been shut between Wyvern Retail Park and Pentagon Island since Saturday, and Derby City Council has said it will remain closed for several days.

However, Pentagon Island itself has now reopened.

The city council said: “A number of roads are likely to remain closed for some time, as there is still a significant amount of flooding on a number of roads and underpasses.

“We’re aiming to reopen these as soon as possible. We need to remove large amounts of debris and check for damage to bridges and structures before roads can be reopened.

“We are asking that if you can, you make every effort to work from home during the start of the week, to relieve the amount of traffic trying to come into the city.

“This is because we are struggling to reopen some of our major roads, due to the remaining flood water.

“As a result we are anticipating really high levels of disruption, and know the frustration that this will cause people, so need to do everything possible to minimise the amount of vehicles on the road.”

Which other roads are closed?

Derbyshire County Council has released a list of roads that remain closed on Monday morning.

The A6 between Duffield and Milford remains shut, as does the B5008 at Willington Bridge to Repton, with people being advised to use the A514 Swarkestone Bridge.

The following roads are also shut as of 11am on Monday:

• A52 Brian Clough Way, Derby (eastbound – one lane closed)
• B5010 Station Road, Elvaston (both directions)
• B5057, Darley Dale (both directions)
• Shuttington Road, Tamworth (both directions)
• Sawley Road, Sawley (both directions)
• Derwent Street, Derby (both directions)
