UN agency warns it could shut down today due to fuel shortages
UN relief workers in Gaza have warned that fuel to power hospitals, water pumps and bakeries will run out today as several countries join calls for âhumanitarian pausesâ in the conflict.
The agency â the biggest supplier of aid in Gaza â said on X: âFuel deliveries must be let in to ensure people have clean drinking water, hospitals can remain open and life-saving aid operations can continue.â Israeli airstrikes have continued overnight.
Meanwhile, Israel has demanded the resignation of UN secretary-general AntĂłnio Guterres after he said the 7 October Hamas attack âdid not happen in a vacuumâ, adding that âthe Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupationâ.
