James Cleverly due to arrive in Rwanda to sign new asylum treaty

James Cleverly en route to Rwanda to sign a new treaty aimed at pushing through the Government’s controversial asylum scheme.

The home secretary is on his way to Kigali in an attempt to make the scheme legally viable after the Supreme Court ruled against the policy.

He is expected to meet his counterpart, Vincent Biruta, to sign the treaty and discuss the next steps on the so-called migration and economic development partnership, the Home Office said.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said “enough is enough” and that it is time to “get control of immigration once and for all”.
