Joe Biden will meet with King Charles at Windsor Castle on UK visit this month

Joe Biden will meet with King Charles and Rishi Sunak in a brief state visit this month, the White House has confirmed.

Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement: “The King will meet the President of the United States of America at Windsor Castle on Monday 10 July”.

“President Biden will travel to London, United Kingdom for engagements with King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to further strengthen the close relationship between our nations,” White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said in a statement.

Mr Biden made a brief trip to Northern Ireland earlier this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, meeting the Prime Minister in Belfast.

Mr Biden previously said he had accepted an offer for a state visit to the UK – but rather than a full state visit, he will only spend two days in the UK.

The US leader will then travel onward to Lithuania for a Nato summit in Vilnius, before visiting newest Nato member Finland as part of the five-day trip.

Mr Sunak will also be attending the Nato summit in Vilnius, which is seen as a crunch summit at which a compromise on Ukraine’s demand for membership of the alliance is expected to be hammered out.

Mr Biden and First Lady, Jill Biden, last visited London for the funeral of the late Queen last September.

The US President did not attend the King’s coronation, with his wife attending in his place.

Rishi Sunak visited Washington DC just a month ago to discuss international efforts on Russia and Ukraine, and the conflict is likely to again be a major focus of their latest meeting.
