King Charles thanks public for ‘messages of support’ after cancer diagnosis
King Charles has spoken publicly for the first time since the announcement of his cancer diagnosis.
Charles thanked the public for their âmany messages of support and good wishesâ during the past week, following the announcement of his diagnosis on Monday.
In his message to the public, Charles said: âI would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.
He added that it was âequally hearteningâ to hear how sharing his diagnosis has helped to promote public understanding of cancer.
âAs all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.
âIt is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world.
âMy lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.â
Charlesâs statement comes after the Queen said on Thursday that the King was doing âextremely well under the circumstancesâ following his diagnosis.
Camilla said her husband was âvery touchedâ by all the messages of support he has been receiving from the public.
Charles has postponed all public-facing duties, but is continuing with behind-the-scenes work on his red boxes of state papers.
William may step in to represent his father at an event, but no engagements are scheduled at the moment and the royal palaces will make arrangements if the need arises.
Kate left hospital last Monday after abdominal surgery and returned to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to be reunited with her three children, but the 42-year-old is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter.
