King Charles smiles and waves in first public appearance since Harry’s interview

The King smiled and waved as he attended church alongside the Queen on Sunday morning in his first public appearance since Prince Harry hinted at a possible reconciliation.

Charles, 75, arrived at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, walking alongside Camilla, for the service.

The King was seen wearing a brown coat and waving to the public before being greeted by the Rev Canon Dr Paul Williams.

In January it was announced the King was receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate at the London Clinic, Marylebone. It was later announced that a type of cancer had been discovered during the treatment.

The King’s cancer has shifted the Royal Family’s dynamics with Prince Harry telling US TV that he “jumped on a plane” as soon as possible to see his father after was diagnosed with cancer.

In an interview the Duke of Sussex told ABC News he was “grateful” for the time with his father during their fleeting meeting in London, and said that families can be brought closer by events such as his father’s health.

The Duke of Sussex told ABC’s Good Morning America: “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go to see him, and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

Asked by interviewer Will Reeve, the son of late Superman actor Christopher Reeve, if the King’s illness could bring the family back together, Prince Harry appeared to suggest it could.

Reeve said: “I’ve also found in my own life that sort of an illness in the family can have a galvanising or a sort of reunifying effect for a family. Is that possible in this case?”

Harry replied: “Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, again, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness – any sickness – brings families together.”

Prince Harry is currently promoting the first winter Invictus Games, which will take place in Vancouver and Whistler between 8 and 16 February, 2025.

To mark the one year countdown to the event, the duke raced down an ice track in a skeleton bobsled during a visit to a Canadian ski resort.

Separately, Prince William will attend the Baftas in a return to public duties as the Princess of Wales continues her recovery from a abdominal surgery.

William has also announced plans to build 24 homes on Duchy of Cornwall land to help tackle homelessness in the region.

The new homes in Nansledan, Newquay will be delivered in association with Cornish homelessness charity St Petrocs and are set to be completed by the autumn of next year.

The development will focus on “creating high quality temporary accommodation that feels like home”, the Duchy said.
