Dozens of MPs sign no confidence motion against Sir Lindsay Hoyle

Sir Lindsay Hoyle is facing calls to resign as Speaker of the House of Commons after the chamber last night descended into chaos with both Conservative and SNP MPs walking out in protest over his handling of Gaza ceasefire votes.

33 MPs have signed a no confidence motion in the Speaker – who has served in the position since 2019. The numbers are not enough to oust him, but the motion could pick up steam over the coming days.

Sir Lindsay apologised for his actions following last night’s theatrics – where he was viewed by some to have favoured Labour. He told MPs he would meet with key players from all parties over the coming days to discuss what happened.
