Latest politics updates as senior Tories warn against politicising extremism

Former Conservative home secretaries and senior MPs have warned against politicising extremism in the run-up to the general election.

It comes as Michael Gove, the Communities Secretary, prepares to announce a new Government definition of extremism.

Dame Priti Patel, Sir Sajid Javid and Amber Rudd are among current and former MPs who have signed a statement urging “as broad a consensus as possible” in tackling extremism from Islamists, far-right groups and others.
