Lewis Capaldi cancels tour for foreseeable future as he ‘learns to adjust’ to impact of Tourette’s

Lewis Capaldi has announced that he will stop touring “for the foreseeable future” as he is “still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s.”

In a statement posted to his social media, the Scottish singer said his performance at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday made it clear to him he needs to “spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order”.

Capaldi first revealed he had been diagnosed with Tourette’s in September last year and has been open about the impact his worsening symptoms have had on his ability to perform onstage.

Earlier this month he cancelled a number of commitments in the lead up to his performance at Glastonbury Festival.

During his performance on the festival’s Pyramid Stage on Saturday he struggled with tics and in an emotional moment was helped by the crowd to finish his set after losing his voice.

In a statement posted on Tuesday, Capaldi thanked those who supported him during his performance at Glastonbury, adding that it “really does mean the world”.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring from the foreseeable future,” he added.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 2 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

The 26-year-old apologised to anyone who planned to come to a show before the end of the year, but said he needs to “feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve”.
