Man arrested over Downing Street crash charged with making indecent child images

A man who was arrested after crashing a car into the Downing Street gates earlier this week has appeared in court after being charged separately with making indecent images of children.

Seth Kneller, 43, from Crewe, was held on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving over the incident in Whitehall on Thursday.

It followed a collision involving a silver Kia near the Prime Minister’s official residence at 4.20pm on Thursday. Mr Kneller was later released under investigation, according to Scotland Yard.

However, police said the man had been charged with a separate “unrelated” offence to their initial inquiry.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday in relation to the charge of making indecent images of children.

The Metropolitan Police said: “Armed officers, who were in attendance, arrested a 43-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.

He was taken into custody and has since been released under investigation in relation to this matter.”

Rishi Sunak is understood to have been in Downing Street when the collision occurred on Thursday, triggering an intense security response. Authorities later said the incident was not believed to be terror-related.

Videos shared on social media showed a small silver car heading west across Whitehall from the Ministry of Defence’s car park opposite and driving slowly into the gates to No 10. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Witnesses at the time described a “smash” before armed officers confronted the motorist, who was put on the ground and handcuffed.
