Man arrested over four rapes of intoxicated people in Manchester city centre
A man in his 40s has been arrested over four recent rapes of people who were intoxicated in Manchester city centre.
Detectives investigating the assaults dating back to February 2024 arrested the man in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
Greater Manchester Police said the suspect had been targeting intoxicated men and women and had also stolen their personal items.
Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt, the forceās lead for rape and other sexual offence, said: āOfficers have been and are continuing to support those involvedā, and the force is ādoing all we can to provide the appropriate care that they need at this timeā.
He added: āThese are truly horrific crimes, no one should feel unsafe when walking the streets of Greater Manchester. We remain committed to achieving justice for all victims of rape and we do not tolerate any form of sexual violence in our communities.
āWe urge anyone who has experienced sexual violence or abuse to please come forward and report it to us. Every report will be thoroughly investigated, and we will ensure that you and your loved ones are fully supported every step of the way as we seek justice.ā
It comes after Reynhard Sinaga was jailed for life in 2020 after luring 48 men from outside Manchester clubs to his flat, before drugging and assaulting, as well as filming the attacks.
Sinaga, a post graduate student, was convicted of 159 sex offences, including 136 rapes.
The judge who sentence him said he will ānever be safe to be releasedā and ordered him to serve a minimum of 30 years in jail,
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Sinaga, who is now serving his sentence at HMP Wakefield, was āthe most prolific rapist in British legal historyā.
At the hearing, Judge Suzanne Goddard QC said Sinaga was āan evil serial sexual predator who has preyed upon young menā who wanted ānothing more than a good night out with their friendsā.
