Is Microsoft down? Problems with Outlook email and Office 365 explained

A number of Microsoft services have been hit by major outage.

Web users have complained they are unable to access Microsoft 365 platforms, including Teams and Outlook.

The tech giant confirmed it was aware of the issue and had begun investigating its “underlying cause”.

Microsoft Teams down

Microsoft Teams is an online collaboration platform that allows users to chat, have meetings, and share notes and attachments.

The website Downdetector, which tracks internet outages, said it had received more than 1,500 reports of issues with Teams by 10am on Friday morning.

The main faults reported were with server connection (61 per cent), followed by app issues (27 per cent) and log in (13 per cent).

The issue appear to have affected Microsoft 365 more widely.

Microsoft 365 encompasses a range of online services, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook.com, OneDrive, as well as programs formerly marketed under the name Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

According to Downdetector, more than 900 users reported issues with 365 by 10am.

According to reports on social media, Outlook – which 400 million people use for email – has had log in difficulties.

The Microsoft 365 service incidents X (formerly Twitter) account said users in the UK and Germany had been affected.

It posted: “We’re investigating an issue where some users in the UK and Germany may be unable to access Microsoft 365 services. We’re looking at diagnostic data to identify the underlying cause. For more details please look for MO688737 in the admin center.”

More than 1000 Xbox users also reported issues accessing services by 10am, according to Downdetector, particularly with log in.
