Three injured after moped rider fires shotgun in Clapham police chase
Three people have been injured in south London after a moped rider who was being pursued by police opened fire.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were chasing a moped that failed to stop at about 4.55pm on Friday, when a firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired from it.
Two people sustained shotgun pellet injuries and a third person was injured by the two-wheeler, according to the force.
The shooting took place near Clapham Common Southside. The suspects fled and firearms officers are searching the area. Several roads have been cordoned off.
London Ambulance Service paramedics have taken the injured people to hospital. The Met said it did not believe any of the injured were in a life-threatening condition.
A local barber, who give his name as Kaka, said: “I was in the shop just before 5pm and I heard a gunshot up the road.
“We were all shocked because it was so close, the police were everywhere afterwards.”
London Ambulance Service said: “We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, operational managers, advanced paramedics and London’s air ambulance.
“We treated three people at the scene and took two to a London major trauma centre and one to hospital.”
Anyone who saw the moped, or captured the incident on dashcam, should call police on 101, quoting incident reference number CAD 5008/ of 1 March.
