Blades of iconic Moulin Rouge windmill crash onto street in Paris

The blades of the landmark red windmill atop the Moulin Rouge, Paris’ most famous cabaret club, crashed to the ground overnight in the early hours of Thursday.

A venue spokesperson said: “We don’t know what happened, it occurred between 2am and 3am, no one was hurt.”

They added that the last show had finished at 1.15am.

Footage shared on social media captured the aftermath of the incident as the large windmill blades lay on the ground outside the historic venue.

Moulin Rouge is best known by many as the birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. The club was founded in 1889 and the audience for its dance shows is largely made up of tourist groups.

This is a developing story and it is being updated.
