Mother ‘blocked’ from seeing son’s ‘bruised body’ in morgue

The mother of Alexei Navalny and his lawyers were not allowed into the morgue to see his body, Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh has claimed.

“One of the lawyers was literally pushed out,” Ms Yarmysh said, adding that morgue staff would not answer a question about where Mr Navalny’s body was.

A paramedic told Russian opposition media that there were bruises on Navalny’s head and chest when his body arrived at the Salekhard District Clinical Hospital.

The news comes as Russian citizens have defied authorities by gathering to lay flowers for Mr Navalny. More than 400 people were arrested over the weekend for placing tributes, according to rights group OVD-Info.
