Triple murder suspect detained for further 36 hours for police questioning

Detectives have been given a further 36 hours to question a 31-year-old man about the murder of three people in Nottingham.

University students Grace Kumar and Barnaby Webber, both 19, were killed on their way home from a night out on Tuesday on Ilkeston Road while the body of school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, was found on Magdala Road.

All three victims are believed to have been stabbed, with the suspect stealing Mr Coates’s van and driving it into three pedestrians before being arrested

In a statement today, Nottingham Police added that the suspect was a former University of Nottingham student although officers did not believe that to be connected with the attack.

The force said in a statement: “We are still working alongside Counter-Terrorism Policing and keeping an open mind on the motives behind these attacks.”
