Police launch investigation into alleged abduction of Alex Batty

A criminal investigation has been launched into the alleged abduction of teenager Alex Batty, who returned to the UK after six years missing abroad.

Alex, now 17, was 11 years old when he failed to return from a family holiday to Spain with his mother and grandfather in 2017.

Officers have interviewed the 17-year-old following his return from France and a criminal investigation has been launched, Greater Manchester Police said.

Alex landed in the UK on Saturday evening having been found by chiropody student Fabien Accidini near the French city of Toulouse last week after walking across the Pyrenees.

He has spoken publicly for the first time since reuniting with his grandmother and official guardian, Susan Caruana, who lives in Oldham.

This is a breaking story and is being updated.
