Three police officers face misconduct probe over Valdo Calocane inquiries
Three police officers are under investigation for potential misconduct over their inquiries into alleged assaults by Valdo Calocane the month before he killed two university students and a caretaker in Nottingham, the police watchdog has said.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said two police constables and a sergeant at Leicestershire Police are under investigation for potential misconduct.
The IOPC probe relates to an investigation into alleged assaults by Calocane in Kegworth, north-west Leicestershire, in May last year.
The alleged incidents took place a month before he fatally stabbed Barnaby Webber, 19, and Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, in the early hours of 13 June in Nottingham.
He was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in January following the deaths of Mr Webber, Ms O’Malley-Kumar and Mr Coates.
It follows a conduct referral from Leicestershire Police in February this year, the watchdog added.

In a statement, the IOPC said: “We have advised three Leicestershire Police officers, two police constables and a sergeant, that they are under investigation for potential misconduct over how enquiries were progressed.
“Decisions on whether any officers have a disciplinary case to answer will be taken on completion of the investigation.”
