Rishi Sunak sparks honours row as businessman who donated £5m gets knighthood

Rishi Sunak has been accused of “blatant disrespect” by Labour after giving a knighthood to a major Tory donor in a surprise round of honours.

Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour, who was appointed as a senior treasurer of the Conservative Party in December 2022, has been awarded a knighthoood for “business, charity and political service”.

He donated £5m to the Conservative Party last January, which at the time marked the biggest one-off donation to the Tories in more than 20 years.
