Waspi women await compensation decision as landmark report published

Women affected by changes to the state pension age could find out if they will receive compensation from the Government, with the findings of a five-year investigation expected to be officially laid out in Parliament on Thursday.

The final report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) into alleged failures at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) over the way pension changes were communicated could recommend that the Government set up a compensation scheme.

Experts have told i they expected the ombudsman to recommend a “highly targeted” compensation scheme focused only on the worst-affected women and that they “would not be hopeful of huge payouts”, but campaigners have insisted they will not “roll over” if the Government refuses to up a scheme.
