Where is Prince Harry staying? Reports Duke used London hotel after visiting King
Prince Harry arrived back in the UK yesterday to reunite with his father, King Charles, whose cancer diagnosis was announced by Buckingham Palace on Monday.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly arrived at London Heathrow from Los Angeles just after midday on Tuesday and was driven straight to Clarence House, the king and queen‘s London residence, where the King, 75, had been recovering following an outpatient treatment for the undisclosed form of cancer.
The reunion reportedly lasted less than an hour before the royal couple were driven to Buckingham Palace, from where they were flown by helicopter to the king’s private Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
But there have been reports that Harry, who left his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and their two young children in the US, stayed in a hotel in London on Tuesday night rather than making use of any royal residences.
Where is Prince Harry staying in the UK?
There are claims that Prince Harry stayed in a hotel in London after reuniting with the King, though these reports have yet to be confirmed by Buckingham Palace or the Duke’s PR team.
It is unknown which hotel this may have been.
If true, the move would not be unprecedented, with Harry understood to have stayed in a hotel when he last returned to the UK, for the annual WellChild awards in September.
He is reportedly unlikely to stay in the UK long, with visiting his father the sole reason for his trip, and is likely to return home to California soon.
Why can’t Harry stay at Frogmore Cottage?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex handed back their keys to Frogmore Cottage, their official residence, in March 2023 after being asked to vacate the Windsor property following the release of Harry’s book Spare.
The cottage is owned by the Crown Estate, and was gifted to Harry by the late Queen Elizabeth II, serving as the Sussex’s primary residence until their move to California in March 2020 and a UK foothold for the couple since then.
A spokesperson for the couple’s Archewell Foundation said last year that a “request” had been made for the Sussexes to give up Frogmore Cottage, which is situated near Windsor Castle. Reports at the time claimed the move was sanctioned by the King, but Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
Harry and Meghan did stay at Frogmore Cottage during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the summer of 2022, with the prince also reportedly residing there during his High Court trials in London last summer.
If the rumours of his stay in a hotel this time around are true, it remains unclear whether the decision not to return to Frogmore was Harry’s own or that of the Palace.
Will Prince Harry see Prince William while in the UK?
The chances of Prince Harry reuniting with his brother William, the Prince of Wales, on this particular trip look slim.
With Harry returning to the UK to visit the king, there were suggestions that he may look to meet with his older brother to begin to heal the long-running rift between the two.
But it is understood that William has no plans for such a meeting, as he continues to juggle looking after his wife, the Princess of Wales, following Kate’s abdominal surgery with caring for the couple’s three children.
The Prince of Wales returned to royal duties on Wednesday for the first time since his wife’s abdominal operation and, as heir to the throne, is now the monarchy’s most prominent public figure following the King’s cancer diagnosis.
He will be the leading member of the royal family at official events across the country while his father receives treatment.
Where does Prince Harry live in the US?
Prince Harry lives in the US with his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
The couple denounced their royal responsibilities and relocated across the pond in March 2020.
They now reside in a mansion in the Montecito neighbourhood in Santa Barbara, California, which they reportedly bought in June 2020.
Other famous residents of the area reportedly include Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Ellen DeGeneres and John Travolta.
