Is Royal Mail tracking down? Why the service is not working today and what to do if you are expecting a parcel

Royal Mail is experiencing an issue with its tracking service, leaving customers unable to check on the status of their deliveries.

The problem started on Monday and has continued into Tuesday morning, with hundreds of people logging complains with online outage tracker Down Detector.

Royal Mail’s tracking page is currently displaying a “service temporarily unavailable” message. The company said it is working on fixing the issue.

“We are very sorry but due to a technical issue at present, we’re unable to track items, including via our internal tracking system,” the Royal Mail Help X account posted. “We’re working to fix this as a matter of urgency.”

The company is yet to provide an update on when the problem may be fixed.

Customers have been complaining about the outage on social media, with one posting: “How is it possible that your tracking service is down for the last hour, Royal Mail ? Royal Mail have just one job and this is how they do it…”

Another, John Kirby, added: “Again, the Royal Mail Track and Trace not working, I have 7 letters I need to track. Been trying for the last 40 minutes.”

The outage comes the day after Royal Mail increased the price of a first-class stamp from £1.10 to £1.25 – the third price rise in just 18 months.

Royal Mail said the price rise was due to current economic pressures, though the Citizens Advice charity accused regulator Ofcom of “letting the company get away” with price rises despite “poor service”.
