The holidays in full across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
Spring is here, which means the countdown is on for the Easter holidays.
For many families, this is an opportunity to spend time together or have a break from the daily grind, marking Easter with a chocolate egg or two.
For most schools, the Easter holidays last a fortnight and mark the end of the spring term and the start of the summer term.
We take a look at when half term is coming up and the school holiday dates for the 2023-24 academic year across the UK.
When are the Easter holidays?
School term dates differ by local authority. To see the term dates in your area, enter your postcode into the Government website here, and it will direct you to the relevant page on your council’s site.
In England, Wales and Scotland, most schools will break for the Easter holidays on Thursday 28 March, returning on Monday 15 April.
In Northern Ireland, schools only get a week’s holiday at this time of year.
In 2024, schools also break up on Thursday 28 March, but return a week earlier on Monday 8 April.
When are the school holidays in 2024?
Once again, in England and Wales, term and holiday dates may differ by local authority, but the majority are following this pattern:
Spring term 2024
- Start of term: Monday 8 January, 2024
- Half term: Monday 12 February to Friday 16 February, 2024
- End of term: Thursday 28 March, 2024
- Easter holiday: Friday 29 March – Friday 12 April, 2024
Summer term 2024
- Start of term: Monday 15 April, 2024
- May day: Monday 6 May, 2024
- Half term: Monday 27 May to Friday 31 May, 2024
- End of term: Monday 29 July, 2024
Pupils will also be off on bank holidays.
