What time are shops open today? Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl supermarket opening hours for bank holiday Monday

Bank holiday Monday is set to be a scorcher, and many will be hoping to take advantage of the sunshine.

The Met Office said Monday will “be a fine and dry day for much of the UK with plenty of sunshine, albeit with some patchy rain in the north of Scotland.

If you’re planning to get supplies in to celebrate the rare stint of sunshine with family and friends it’s worth knowing when the supermarkets open.


Sainsbury’s supermarkets are expected to be open at the following times:

  • Monday 29 May – 8am to 8pm

For Sainsbury’s Local stores, the opening times tend to be:

  • Monday 29 May – 7am to midnight

You can also use its store locator to check opening times in your area


Opening hours at Tesco will change depending on the store, but they will generally be:

  • Monday 29 May – 8am to 6pm

For the chain’s express stores, the opening times will remain roughly the same. These will be:

  • Monday 29 May – 6am to 11pm


  • Monday 29 May – 6am to 8pm

Check your local Aldi store’s opening times here, but most will follow this pattern:

The German food retailers opening times will be:

The Waitrose store locator will tell you the opening times for your local supermarket, but they will follow this general pattern:

Will shops be open on Bank holiday Monday?

Almost all major shops, restaurants, and coffee shops will be open on Bank Holiday Monday.
