Is Sky Mobile still down? What we know about if the network is working today after major issues

Thousands of Sky mobile customers were left without service on Tuesday as the network experienced problems.

The network said it was “investigating the issue” and apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused after the issues emerged early on Tuesday afternoon.

But some are still reporting service problems this morning.

Is Sky Mobile still down?

Reports on Down Detector indicate that there are still issues with Sky Mobile on Wednesday morning.

At 8.13am there were 178 reports of customers having issues, most of which were problems with mobile phone service.

According to a statement on the Sky website on Wednesday morning: “Some of our customers may be experiencing disruption to their Sky Mobile services, our engineers are working hard to fix this. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. UPDATE: Investigation is still ongoing with the highest priority. “

The Sky Help Team Twitter account also confirmed that “some Sky Mobile Services have been restored”, adding that it is still being investigated.

This comes after many more customers reported problems on Tuesday afternoon.

Down Detector indicated that Sky Mobile customers began flagging problems shortly before 1pm.

However, complaints have continued to mount through the afternoon, climbing to a peak at around 4pm, when there were just under 2,000 reports.

Just after 2pm, Sky’s Help Team issued the following statement on Twitter: “We are aware that some Sky Mobile customers are experiencing issues with making and receiving calls right now.

“We are investigating the issue and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing.”

Many Sky Mobile users have posted on Twitter, complaining that they are unable to make or receive phone calls.

Others have stated that they are not able to send or receive messages, and that they are not able to use mobile internet services.

What about other networks?

As of Wednesday morning there were also 29 reports of problems at O2, and 25 at GiffGaff, indicating potential problems with the network, however this is a significant decrease on issues that were experienced on Tuesday.

According to Down Detector, reports of issues with these networks came through yesterday afternoon, with almost 2000 people saying they had problems with GiffGaff, and just under 1000 at O2.

Giffgaff initially acknowledged issues with customers sending text messages, stating on its website: “We have seen a number of reports by members on the community that they are unable to send SMS and are being presented with an error message. Our technical teams are currently investigating as a priority.”

It later added that the problems were now affecting calls, too, and that the provider’s engineers were working on the issues.

You can see the latest from Giffgaff via its live blog post addressing the issues here, where it says they have been resolved.

Neither O2 nor EE have yet confirmed if the networks are suffering widespread issues. O2 customers can check the mobile coverage in their region here, while EE customers can check here.
