Taylor Swift makes Grammys history and announces new album
Taylor Swift has made history at the Grammys by becoming the only artist to win the album of the year prize four times.
Swift said she was âmind blownâ as she took the honour for album âMidnightsâ at the ceremony.
As she collected the award from Celine Dion, she said: âOh god, no. I donât know man.â
She praised long-term collaborator Jack Antonoff as a âonce in a generationâ producer and her fellow nominee Lana Del Rey as a âlegacy artistâ and a âlegend in her prime right now.â
She added: âI would love to tell you that this is the best moment in my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love or when Iâm shotlisting a music video, or when Iâm rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.
âFor me, the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy.
âIt makes me unbelievably blown away that it makes some people happy who voted for this award too. All I want to do is keep doing this. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much â mind blownâ.
Swift also revealed she has a new album coming out in April.
âMy brand-new album comes out April 19. Itâs called The Tortured Poets Department. Iâm going to go and post the cover right now backstage,â she announced.
On her Instagram, Swift posted a black-and-white image of her reclining across pillows. The top half of her face and lower half of her legs are cut off in the low-contrast image.
Sunday nightâs Grammys ceremony was dominated by female musicians.
Billie Eilish claimed song of the year for âWhat Was I Made For?,â a ballad written for the âBarbieâ movie soundtrack. Miley Cyrus landed the record of the year honor for her empowerment anthem âFlowers.â Best new artist went to R&B and pop singer Victoria Monet.
Winners were chosen by the musicians, producers, engineers and others who make up the Recording Academy. The group has worked to diversify its membership in recent years by inviting more women and people of colour to its ranks.
